In my years as Chemical Process Engineer, I worked not only in the office but also in the field doing commissioning, startup and plant troubleshooting. I really like the office but field activities are very rewarding. In my point of view:
1) Commissioning and startup increase process engineer technical skills. You really get the lesson learned each time you help fixing something in the field.
2) Improvement in management skills. Being a startup leader means you need to do regular reports for management staff, think about resources and also face schedule pressure without missing safety culture.
3) Go to new places and meet other people is the opportunity to experience local culture, increase network, do new friends and growth yourself.
4) The team has the chance to increase buildup. In the same hotel and getting the same transportation to the site, it is time to know your college better. Trusting each other will make life away from home easier.
5) When you accomplish “the mission” and the product is specified and ready to feed the customer or the storage you feel intense happiness. You feel great for doing your job. It is something really amazing.
