How can you help LinkedIn help you get a job?
Although do that is very simple, people insist to ignore this: add a proper qualification description. I mean, choose correctly your job title or the job title they are looking for.
If you do not know what I am talking about, be aware that recruiters use job positions to look for candidates. They do not look for “helping people”, “looking for an opportunity”, “I am available” etc.
It is very easy to understand. If you need a chemical process engineer to fill a position, what words will you type in LinkedIn to find them? Chemical process engineer, chemical engineer, process engineer are good hints?
My personal preference is to not add junior, senior nor principal to the title. Let the recruiter check that viewing your profile. Another info to keep out in the title description is highlighting you are available. Companies do not care if we are available if they want you they will offer you a job. Moreover:
WHAT IS AVAILABLE IS LESS INTERESTING.
You should not hide you are looking for a new position, but you do not need to highlight that.
Do not believe in me? Take a look at my profile PrintScreen and see the keywords recruiters use to search for a Chemical Process Engineer.
