Chemical Engineering opens a wide range of opportunities. But the most fascinating of them, in my point of view, is Industrial Design. Be able to see conceptual to design, design to construction and construction to operation is something that few engineer has the opportunity to do.
Supporting a process engineering team in the Detailing Design a Process Engineer uses information from Basic Design to develop deliverables needed to further plant construction. It is very important to verify and fix inconsistencies in the process description, main process equipment list, heat and material balance, process flow diagram and piping and instrumentation diagram (P&ID). Based on that information usually documents to be issued by process engineer are: process datasheet for automatic valves, pressure regulator, flowmeters, safety relief devices etc. Process specification for minor equipment. Process safety reports and checklist. Operating Manual and Procedures, as well as, P&ID updates. Not to mention support to other disciplines.
Although people may think that engineers do calculation all the time, in fact the main rule for this position is to solve problems using analytical thinking and integrate information from different people and disciplines.
